About the Author
Nancy Rauch Douzinas grew up in Long Island and attended Smith College. She received a M.A. and Ph.D. in Community Psychology from New York University, and in 1991 became president of the Rauch Foundation, which focused on early preschool education on Long Island and the environment in both Maryland and Long Island. Under Nancy’s leadership, the foundation developed a proactive approach to grant-making, and her entrepreneurial approach resulted in many high-yielding grants, including leveraging a major New York State investment in critical infrastructure.
Over the course of her career, Nancy received numerous awards, including three honorary university degrees and being named the “Long Island Press’ Power List” of Long Island leaders numerous times. She has published opinion editorials and other pieces in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Newsday, the New York Times and local Long Island papers.
In 2001, Nancy stepped down as President of the Rauch Foundation, and in 2026 she retired from the board. The Rauch Foundation continues to employ social change-making strategies.
